Each couture commission at The Vintage Couturière is created to honour a particular chapter in a woman’s life. More than a garment, it is a thoughtfully crafted piece designed to reflect who you are in this moment while becoming part of the story you leave behind.

Many clients choose to commission their garment as part of a Legacy Couture Portrait experience, where couture and portraiture come together to create an enduring visual record of a meaningful chapter of life. While a portrait commission is entirely optional, it is often a natural extension of the couture journey, allowing the garment to be preserved not only as an heirloom to wear, but as part of a fine art portrait created to be treasured for generations.

Whether commissioned as a standalone couture piece or as part of a Legacy Couture Portrait, each garment is approached with the same care, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. The result is something deeply personal, thoughtfully created, and uniquely your own.

The Couture Commission Process

The Vintage Couturière offers a made-to-order couture service centred around a series of carefully curated couture capsule collections inspired by the feminine archetypes that define the Legacy Couture Portrait experience.

Rather than beginning with a completely blank canvas, clients are invited to select from a collection of original couture designs aligned with their chosen archetype. This approach allows each garment to remain faithful to the artistic vision of the collection while providing opportunities for personalisation through fabric selection, colour, fit, and optional embellishment.

Each piece is handcrafted to order and created exclusively for the individual client.

Selecting Your Design

The journey begins with the selection of a couture design from the Legacy Couture Capsule associated with your chosen archetype, or from another capsule collection that resonates with you.

During your consultation, we will explore the available styles, silhouettes, fabrics, colours, and design options to determine the look that best reflects your vision and complements your portrait experience.

Design Development & Approval

Once a design has been selected, the creative direction is refined through discussion, fabric exploration, colour palettes, styling considerations, and optional embellishment concepts.

This stage may include the review and approval of:

• Design sketches

• Fabric and trim selections

• Colour palettes

• Styling details

• Embellishment concepts

• Design refinements

The approved design becomes the foundation for the creation of your garment.

Personalisation

Each couture garment is created specifically for the individual client.

Depending on the design, personalisation options may include:

• Fabric selection

• Colour variations

• Sleeve and length options

• Trim selections

• Couture finishing details

For clients seeking additional artistry, selected garments may also be enhanced with optional hand embellishment.

Optional Embellishment

A selection of couture embellishment services may be available depending on the design.

These may include:

• Haute couture hand embroidery

• Beadwork

• Crystal embellishment

• Ribbon work

• Appliqué

• Decorative textile techniques

Embellishment proposals are developed individually and quoted separately according to the complexity of the work involved.

Measurements & Construction

Measurements are taken to ensure the garment is created specifically for your individual proportions and fit preferences.

Following design approval, fabrics and materials are sourced and prepared before construction begins. Depending on the complexity of the commission, this stage may involve pattern development, draping, embroidery, hand finishing, couture detailing, and other specialist techniques.

Fittings & Refinement

A minimum of three fittings are included as part of a couture commission. These appointments provide an opportunity to review the initial garment or toile, assess fit, refine proportions, and ensure the design is developing as intended.

Additional fittings and refinements may be undertaken as construction progresses, depending on the complexity of the garment and the requirements of the commission.

Each fitting provides an opportunity to perfect the garment and ensure it remains faithful to the vision established during the planning and design stages.

The final fitting is conducted once the garment is substantially complete and provides an opportunity to review the finished piece, styling elements, movement, and any final refinements before delivery or portrait use.

Final Delivery

For Couture Commissions, the completed garment will be professionally prepared and presented to the client upon completion of the commission, together with any agreed care instructions and supporting documentation.

For Legacy Couture Portrait Commissions, the completed garment will be carefully prepared and delivered to the portrait location for use during the portrait session. Following completion of the portrait experience, the garment will be professionally packaged together with any agreed care instructions and supporting documentation and presented to the client as both a couture creation and a lasting heirloom of the commission.

Heirloom Preservation

Every couture garment is created with longevity in mind. Upon completion of the commission, guidance relating to care, storage, and long-term preservation will be provided to assist in protecting your garment for years to come.

Whether worn for a special occasion, displayed as a cherished keepsake, or preserved as part of your family history, the intention is that each piece may continue to tell its story long after the commission itself has been completed.
